In the center of Pittsburgh’s east end, you’ll find Frick Park – 644 acres of it to be exact. Starting in Point Breeze, the park now extends to the neighborhoods of Squirrel Hill and Edgewood, with hiking trails, playgrounds, and lots of natural forest in between. The Reynold’s Street Gate is the official entrance and is our personal favorite spot to start a leisurely hike. Across the street is the original Henry Clay Frick mansion, The Frick Art Museum, The Car and Carriage Museum, the Greenhouse, the Frick children’s playhouse; and The Café.

See the Trail Map

Created in 1889 with land donated by heiress Mary Schenley, the park now contains 456 acres of trails, woods, and attractions right next to our Oakland neighborhood’s beautiful university architecture. Visitors to Schenley Park can spend a morning at the remarkable Phipps Conservatory, enjoy lunch and a concert at the Schenley Park Café and Visitor Center, relax on Flagstaff Hill, play a round at the Bob O’Connor Golf Course, head to the Schenley Oval Sportsplex for ice skating or summer sports, or take a dip in the swimming pool. And of course, the trails offer a refreshing and convenient escape from the city.

These urban trails are divided into three sections – one to the north, one downtown, and one to the southeast. Each offer different experiences. Along the North Shore, a paved trail follows the river and meanders past some of Pittsburgh’s most amazing monuments, from dedicated statues, sports stadiums, and frankly one of the best views of the city and it’s bridges. The downtown trail includes Point State Park, where you can sit at the intersection of our three rivers. To the south, a beautiful bike path runs along the river and through neighborhoods and shopping areas.

Point State Park (aka “The Point”) is located at the confluence of Pittsburgh’s three rivers, and is best known for its 150-foot high fountain, one of Pittsburgh’s most recognizeable landmarks. The park is a popular spot to relax, people-watch, and take in panoramic views of the rivers, Mount Washington, the sports stadiums, and the downtown skyline.

The park is a National Historic Landmark, and commemorates and preserves the strategic and historic heritage of the area. Located at the park is the Fort Pitt Museum, housing exhibits on Western Pennsylvania’s role during the French & Indian War, the American Revolution, and as the birthplace of Pittsburgh. The park is also home to the Fort Pitt Blockhouse, the oldest architectural landmark in Pittsburgh, built in 1764.
